The poorest areas of Britain could lose billions of pounds in post-Brexit funding, campaigners have warned.

Analysis of government spending by the Communities in Charge campaign warns London and the South East could receive billions in extra public funds if post-Brexit funding follows the same pattern as exisiting UK programmes.

It found seven regions are at risk of losing public funding, such as Wales missing out on over £2.3bn over six years, and the South West losing over £1bn.

However, London could receive an extra £1.9bn while the South East would receive an extra £1.2bn if default spending patterns are followed, the report found.

The campaign is calling for at least a quarter of the Shared Prosperity Fund to go directly to local people, resources to be made available to the places that need it the most, and for local people to scrutinise all spending decisions.
